HUNTINGTON, UTAH- Leora Leamaster, age 93, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family Nov. 8, 2009 in Huntington, Utah. Leora was born March 28, 1916 in Cleveland, Utah to Edward C. and Maude Edna Eden Jensen, the fourth of 11 children. Leora married Vernon Leamaster in Price, Utah on Feb. 1, 1936. Their marriage was later solemnized Nove. 19, 1948 in the Manti LDS Temple.
Leora was raised on a farm in Cleveland, where she learned how to ride horses and became an excellent rider. Her early life on the farm taught her how to work hard and be very organized, talents she maintained throughout her life, always finding ways to help other people. She played the piano, had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed all music. Leora always raised and enjoyed beautiful flowers and gardens.
She was very active in the LDS church, serving in numerous church positions for many years including Relief Society, Sunday School, Primary and Cub Scouts. Leora also served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Carolina with her husband Vernon from 1989-1990.
In addition to being a loving and dedicated wife and mother, Leora supported her husband and family in the family coal mining business as well as many different jobs outside her home during difficult times and still attended uncountable school and church activities. She also continually supported her many grandchildren in their school, sports and church activities and homecoming events.
She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Vernon Leamaster, daughters Kay Fox of Vernal, and Terri (David) Papenfuss of Seattle, Wash., sons Darrel (LaRae) Leamaster of Huntington and Lynn (LeIla) Leamaster of Ogden, 19 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Ted Jensen of Elmo, Roy (Zona) Jensen of Cleveland and Glen (Karen) Jensen of Elmo.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, grandson David Leamaster, great-grandson Jade Sharp, her sisters Harriet, Annette, Lindora and Beth and brothers Ike, Bill and Fred.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Huntington First and Fifth Ward Building at 115 S. 400 E. Huntington, Utah. A viewing will be held at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale, Utah on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. A viewing will also be held in the Huntington First and Fifth Ward Building prior to the funeral service from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Cleveland City Cemetery.
