My Dad was Phillip Vea. He was born on Nov. 9, 1916. He died on Nov. 4, 2009. Just five days shy of his 93rd birthday. He was born in Logan, W.V. to Pasqual (Charlie), Vea and Maria Teresa (Pinelli), Pinarelli. Both parents immigrated to the United States from Italy where they started their family. Together they had six children, Angie, Joe, Phillip, John, Teresa and Rosie.
My dad lived in Carbon County his whole life where he accomplished a lot of things with only a third grade education. He was a farmer and a coal miner for more than 27 years.
He married the love of his life Pauline Kissell. They were married for 55 years. Together they ran The Blue Cut Service Station. In 1952 he started his own business, Phillip’s Appliance and Sporting Goods.
He was a life long member of the Catholic Church. He was a member of UMWA. He loved hunting, fishing and planting his garden which he shared with many people in Carbon County and elsewhere. He loved giving his vegetables away.
He was the grand marshal in the Spring Glen Days Parade in 2008. He was very proud of this and all his accomplishments.
He had 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren who loved very much.
I admire my dad for where he went with his life and all the things he taught me. I will miss him. Love, his daughter Janice.

Funeral Mass was held Mon, Nov. 9, 2009, 10 a.m. St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Vigil service was held Sunday evening 7 p.m. Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Sunday and Monday one hour prior to service. Entombment, Price City Cemetery, Price.
