Recreation district news: Dates set for Desertview Pro Rodeo 2010

The Emery County Recreation board meets monthly in Castle Dale and also holds meetings in Green River. They hear reports by the recreation district director Gaylee Jeffs and from each of the board members. Each town in the county has a representative on the board sent by the city and there are two at-large members.
In the November meeting, Jeffs talked to the board about making a few changes to the contract concerning the Bear Creek Campground host. The county attorney made a few suggestions and the board discussed the changes and will talk about it again in a future meeting.
The board decided to send appreciation certificates to the presidents of the leagues in the county who facilitate the sports programs. The board decided against giving any incentives for rodeo and fair employees.
The tentative budget for 2010 was presented and approved by the board.
Board member Bart Cox, presented to the board a brief training on open public meetings and the proper procedures for carrying out these meetings.
Each board member reported on activities their city has upcoming. Dan Whiteleather reported the Castle Dale Christmas Party will be on Dec. 10 at the recreation center.
He also talked to the board about bids to replace the Bear Creek Campground pavilion roofs. Cathy Cowley said the Huntington City Turkey Trot was on Nov. 26, Thanksgiving Day. Cox said Orangeville has plans for a Christmas party on Dec. 5. Kalynn Fail said Green River Christmas is on Dec. 5 at the Fire House and the Santa Giveaway starts at 11 a.m. Dec. 5 at 6 p.m is the First Annual Christmas Light Parade at the Fire House. Light up your vehicle of choice and join in. If you would like to join in pick up a parade entry form at Green River City Hall. After the parade there will be hot chocolate and cookies at the City Park.
John Nielson wants emphasis put on the Huntington ball complex. Jeffs went over plans for the future improvements on the complex. “I am in the process of trying to get approved for a C.I.B. grant for improvements to the complex and a sport court,” said Jeffs.
Jordan Leonard said Ferron held a scarecrow contest recently and the golf course expansion project is progressing nicely. Ferron’s Christmas party is on Dec. 7.
In the director’s report, Jeffs said a holiday youth basketball tourney will be held on Dec. 28-29 at the Spartan Center. The gun club has started their winter shooting schedule. Their are 430 youth registered for Junior Jazz. Seven teams are playing in the mens basketball league. The rappeling trip was cancelled due to an emergency. The youth football league recently ended their season along with soccer and flag football. The youth football all-stars played up North in the all-star league.
Jeffs plans to put together a booklet which outlines activities in the county. It will include information about all the sport programs offered by the recreation district with registration information. It will also include information from other organizations and county and community activities. The booklet will be ready sometime in the spring and will be mailed to everyone in the county.
The Desertview Pro-Rodeo will be held on July 29, 30 and 31, 2010. The fair will follow the week of Aug. 4-7.
The next recreation board will be on Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at the recreation center in Castle Dale and is open to the public.
