FERRON-Bryant Glade Nelson, age 80, passed away Saturday Dec. 19, 2009 in Provo, Utah. He was born May 8, 1929 to Bryant A. and Gladys Braithwaite Nelson in Ferron, the third of seven children. He grew up and attended school in Ferron, including South Emery High.
At the age of 16 he joined the U.S. Army and served his country during WW II in Japan. Following his military service he returned to Utah where he raised a family of 15 children. He married Becky Koopmans on Nov. 17, 1974 in Sandy, Utah, they just celebrated their 35th anniversary in November.
Glade drove truck for more than 53 years, logging more than 5 million miles. He enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, making others laugh, and telling stories. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them the value of hard work. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who was honest, hardworking, always teaching, caring and most of all willing to give to those in need.
Glade is survived by his wife: Becky, children: Michael (Joyce) Nelson of Highland, Calif., Glenna (Kip) Cotner of Ferron, Sherri Herbst of Rawlings, Wyo., Marilyn (Marvin) Johnson of Taylsorville, Carolyn (Clark) Goodwin of Taylorsville, Tracy (Becky) Nelson of Ferron, Sheila (Maynard) Johnson of Lucerne Valley, Calif., Deanni (Kevin) Wareham of Ferron, Lee DeHaan of California, Tiffany (Jon) Sorensen of Castle Dale, Bryant (Mindy) Nelson II of Huntington, Jamie (Joseph) Murdoch of Clawson, Lisa (Buck) Taylor of Castle Dale, Carl (Lindsay) Nelson of Eagle Mountain, Derek (Savannah) Nelson of Clawson, 42 grandchildren 13 great-grandchildren, siblings, DoraDean Snow of Sugar House, James F. (Catherine) Nelson of Castle Dale, Earl (Colleen) Nelson of Layton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sister: Glenna Nelson, brother: Joseph Nelson, sister: LaRue (Johnny) Pettiti, brother-in-law Sherald Snow, sister-in-law: Mary Chapman Nelson, granddaughter: Shandee Murdoch.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Bluehills LDS Ward Chapel (35 W. 200 N., Ferron). A viewing will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale, (720 N. Center St.) and on Wednesday from 12:45-1:45 p.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be at the Ferron City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Friends and family may sign the guestbook and share memories of Glade at www.fausettmortuary.com.
