The Salt Lake Children’s Choir is now in its 30th year and is planning a 30th Anniversary Gala Concert for May 15 in Abravanel Hall. They are in the process of forming an Alumni choir and don’t have current contact information for all choir alumni and are hopeful that through this announcement they can reach as many former choir members as possible. Buckhorn Archery Club Winter League
Yes it’s that time again for winter league to start. If you have a bow and arrows, come and join the fun. It will get you out of the house and off the couch for some fun once a week. You will also get in shooting shape for the archery hunt. It’s something the entire family can do together, plus it’s a fun time.
The league will start on Jan. 6. The first night will be a signup night starting at 3:30 p.m., and we will also shoot for fun and you can sight in also. If you can’t make it that night you can join all season long. We shoot every Wednesday night.
We are starting a traditional category so if you have a long or recurve bow and want to join in the fun come give it a try.
Registration is still $20 a single or $30 a family. You must purchase insurance at a cost of $7 a year. The weekly fee is $7 a night. If you are helping any shooter, you have to purchase the insurance even if you’re not shooting. No exceptions. Everyone participating must have insurance.
If you are a person 18 or younger and are still in high school, it is free for you to shoot each week. You still have to pay registration and insurance.
If you have a child, and would like them to get involved come and talk with us. Archery helps kids build confidence in themselves.
We will have at least one indoor 3-D shoot during the season, as well as our annual shoot up Huntington Canyon in the spring. If you’re a dedicated hunter you can get some hours by helping the club throughout the season, (Talk to Randy).

Emery County’s Third Annual Free Family Night
Jan. 13 from 5:30-8 p.m. at Emery High School. Family Night is an evening dedicated to your family, full of information booths with free items, activities and free dinner.

Orangeville City Rabies and Licensing Clinic
Orangeville City Rabies and Licensing Clinic will be held on Jan. 16 and Feb 27 at the New Fire Station from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. 2010 Dog tags are avaiable at the City Hall, please bring in your rabies information when licensing your dog. $8 for altered dogs and $25 for unaltered dog. All dogs need to be licensed in the city, house dogs and outside dogs by March 1.

PREHISTORY WEEK POSTER CONTEST
Utah State History announces the 2010 Utah Prehistory Week Poster Contest. The winning poster will be professionally printed anddistributed nationwide to promote Utah’s unique past. Every year during the first full week of May, Prehistory Week celebrates Utah’s rich archaeological, paleontological, and cultural resources. Events all over the state include lectures, programs, activities, demonstrations, and tours.
The poster contest is open to all ages. Entrants may choose any material, design, or medium, but the principal elements of the design should depict aspects of Utah archaeology, and entries should be less than 16″ wide and 24″ long. Winners in three categories will receive cash prizes: grand prize winner: $250; secondary school winner: $100; elementary school winner: $100.
Posters should be submitted no later than January 7, 2010, to:

Free Resource Makes Applying for Student Financial Aid Easier
Self-guided presentation walks students through the sometimes-confusing financial aid application process. The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority is very pleased to announce “Navigating the FAFSA,” a much-needed new resource to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (commonly called the “FAFSA”). This tool is a self-directed presentation that guides students through topics explaining the purpose of the FAFSA, how to obtain a PIN to sign their FAFSA securely online, what information should be gathered, how to complete the FAFSA, and how to submit it. Easily found on the front page of the UHEAA website, this presentation gives high school counselors and financial aid professionals another tool to help their students. CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
