ELMO-Velma Allred age 77, passed away Dec. 31, 2009 in Elmo, Utah. She was born to Adelbert Lee and Annie Irene Axelsen Childs on March 25, 1932 in Elmo, Utah. Velma was married to Roy E. Johansen for more than 25 years. She was also married to Parlan Ray Allred for more than 20 years.
Velma had many hobbies and interests including; cooking, sewing, making quilts, gardening, baking bread, watching the Jazz games with her friend Nina, being in the desert and mountains picking rocks and especially her hollyhocks. She made many quilts for her family and friends, once she started counting it totaled 1,151.
Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. “We will miss you, but your quilts will keep us warm and the recipes you taught us will be handed down. We will forever treasure your friendship. We are grateful for your love and your life. Velma’s greatest joy was her children and grandchildren; K.C., Jessica, Shaney, Tandie, Jake, Lacey, Dane, Jay, Ashley, Kade, Braxton, Jacie, Colton, Eric, Michelle and Timothy, great-grandchildren; Gavin, Kaydynce, Chad, Anndie, Beritt, Wiley, Haiden, Jaxsten, ShiAnne, Aundrea, Gage, Kane and Chloe.
She is survived by her children; Chris Johansen, Nita (Marvin) Thayn, Tina (Vern) Lyons, and Jenni (Bill) Fasselin all of Elmo, Utah, and David Allred of Oklahoma 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, siblings; Leora Johansen of Price, Ann Fivecoat of Elmo and Darlene (DaVoy) Acerson of Riverton, Utah.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son; Jeff Johansen, sister; Shirley Brown, brothers; Sheldon Childs and Ken Childs, and daughters-in-law; Susie Johansen and Debbie Allred.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Elmo Town Hall. Graveside services will follow at 12 noon at the Elmo Town Cemetery.
