FERRON-Dudley “Dud” Swasey, age 82, passed away Jan. 8, 2010. Dudley was born Nov. 11, 1927 in Price, Utah, as one of three children born to Rodney D. and Nancy Nallion Swasey. He married Leona Merrick on March 16, 1951 in Price.
Dudley grew up in Green River on his family farm where he learned the value of hard work at a young age. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He and Leona lived in Price until 1976. They then moved to Ferron.
Dudley was a cattle rancher and a coal miner. After working in the coal mines for 27 years, he retired in 1975 due to black lung disease. The ranch is where Dudley taught his family the value of honesty and hard work. He loved horses and raising cattle. He also loved to tell stories and had a great sense of humor. He was proud of his family and will be missed by all.
Dudley is survived by his wife, Leona; three children: Rodney (Raelyn) Swasey, Ted (LaRena) Swasey, and Sidney (Sherrie) Swasey, all of Ferron; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-granchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charley and Joe; and a grandson, Steven Swasey.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Molen Cemetery, which is surrounded by his ranch. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #42 of Ferron.
