The Emery County Board of the Municipal Building Authority met in its first meeting of the year on Jan. 5. Commissioner Jeff Horrocks was nominated by Commissioner Laurie Pitchforth to be the chairman for 2010. Horrocks expressed his thanks and appreciation. The calendar of meetings for 2010 was approved. Meetings will be on the second Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. The next meeting will be Feb. 9.
Change orders were approved for the Emery County Care and Rehab Center remodeling project. The change orders were approved, but there are questions involved on these change orders. The commissioners met with the contractor on Jan. 6 and the commissioners went over the change orders at that time. If some of these change orders don’t meet with the commissioners approval, they will be amended.
Commissioner Pitchforth reported the new offices at the care center are almost complete. The carpet is down. Work is being done in the kitchen area. The bathrooms don’t have fixtures yet, but the floors and walls are finished. In the south wing, the painting and new floors will give the section a face lift.
Bids were opened for the remodeling of the Huntington Senior Center kitchen. There haven’t been any updates there since the center opened and everything is original. The bid was awarded to Architectural Coalition for $9,265.
The project at the Huntington Senior Center will begin in early spring and will include tearing out the old kitchen and replacing it with something similar to the kitchen at the Castle Dale Center. The Huntington Center needs a dishwasher and they only use paper products for their dinners. “It needs a remodel and update,” said Commissioner Gary Kofford.
The board approved the paying of the bills with the addition of a $1,000 payment to Architectural Coalition the company who will be doing the remodeling work at the Huntington Center.
The minutes were approved for December. Commissioner Horrocks reported that MBA member Sharon Jensen is sick and in the hospital and the board wishes her a quick recovery,
