PRICE-Our incredibly loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Alice Marie Schoenberger Beacco, age 73, died Jan. 23, 2010 peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Alice was born June 9, 1936 in Durango, Colo. to Carl and Beatrice McCormick Schoenberger. She married her loving husband and life partner Amedeo Beacco on July 28, 1956 at St. Anthony’s Church in Helper.
Alice was an active member of Notre Dame Catholic Church. She contributed many years of selfless service to the members of the parish. She loved Notre Dame School and she gave many years of her life volunteering in various capacities there.
She will always be remembered as the best softball player to ever grace a field. She played for 17 years, beginning with the Rio Grande Cafe Team, Lee’s Bee’s, and then of course her beloved Mitchell’s Mummies. In all her years on third base not one ground ball ever made it past her.
She loved nothing more than spending time and doing anything for her family. There was never a game, recital, concert, wedding, or graduation that she missed.
Her son Mike was her absolute pride and joy and she spent years cheering him on with whatever he chose to do. She coached his Little League baseball team, traveled with his football teams, and could always be found with cases of oranges for the guys.
Being a grandmother then became her life. She loved her grandkids more than anything and would make sure they knew she would do anything for them.
Alice never met a stranger. She will always be remembered for her hugs and every time you saw her you were greeted with a hug, a huge smile, and a person who wanted you to feel special and appreciated. Alice meant so much to so many. She was more than an aunt and more than a friend. She was a one-of-a-kind person that we were all privileged to know.
Alice received the Visionary Service Leader Award in 2005 for her outstanding community service. She was also recognized as the Catholic Woman of the Year in 2008. She loved that honor and deserved every round of applause and hug that she received. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
