Damage, theft to local businesses caused by break-ins

By By

In the early morning hours of Feb. 1 or late on Jan. 31 two businesses in the county sustained break-ins. The Country Corner store in Cleveland and Cindi’s restaurant in Huntington both had their front doors smashed in and someone entered the businesses. Det. Sgt. Robert Blackburn of the Emery County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation. He said, “They entered the businesses through the front doors which they had broken the glass from the door. They took the cash registers from the businesses. We found the cash register from the Country Corner store on airport road and a drawer from that cash register along the road to Cleveland from the turnoff by Huntington Lake.
“The cash register from Cindi’s was found by the Huntington City maintenance shop on 100 W. 370 N. The cash registers had sustained damage. The cash register from Country Corner was empty when they took it, which they didn’t find out until it was opened. The cash register from Cindi’s had approximately $200 in it. Tobacco products and cigarettes were also thought to be missing from Country Corner. No other items were taken from Cindi’s except the cash register.
“We are questioning people now concerning the break-ins. The cash registers have been taken into evidence and will be fingerprinted,” said Blackburn.
Emery County Sheriff LaMar Guymon said, “A $500 reward is being offered for anyone having information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for these break-ins. The door glass will need to replaced at these businesses which is a considerable expense. We here at the sheriff’s office take crimes against small business very seriously. It’s a struggle for small businesses in our county to survive and they don’t need thieves making things harder for them. If you have any information, please contact the sheriff’s office at 381-2404 and ask for Det. Sgt. Blackburn who is handling the investigation.”
