FAIRVIEW/PRICE-Edythe Chelestina Blackburn, 85, of Fairview, Utah died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010. Edythe was born Oct. 2, 1924 in Helper, Utah to Mike and Lena Cognan Bergera.
She spent her childhood in Gordon Creek, Utah, attended Notre Dame Catholic School and graduated from Carbon High School in Price, Utah. Edythe graduated with a Registered Nursing Degree from Holy Cross School of Nursing in Salt Lake City. She moved back to Price and went to work in the Price Hospital. While she was working there, she met her husband, Harold L. “Blackie” Blackburn. They were married on Dec. 7, 1942 at Clawson, Utah. Harold and Edythe moved to Hiawatha and then to Carbonville where they lived until 1960 when they moved to Fairview, Utah.
Edythe worked as a nurse for Dr. Hubbard and Dr. Ruggeri, DDS until she moved to Fairview. Edythe was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, who always enjoyed spending time with her family. Edythe was very proud of her Italian heritage. She had a wonderful sense of humor.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Blackburn of Fairview, Utah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Nikki Blackburn and Gary and Cindy Blackburn all of Grand Junction, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Chris, Jason, Nicole, Heather, Andrea and Gary Shane, 15 great-grandchildren; one nephew and his wife, Gregg and Helen Larsen, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Blanche Blackburn, Que and Barbara Blackburn, Merlin and Jerry Blackburn, and Blain and Merlina Blackburn. She was preceded in death by her father, Mike, mother, Lena, sister and her husband, Mary and Kay Larsen.
The Rosary was recited on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. The funeral was on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 at 1 p.m. also at the mortuary with the Rev. Athanasios Emmert celebrating. Family received friends at Mitchell’s Friday evening at 6 p.m. and Saturday two hours prior to the service. Burial followed in the Price City Cemetery.
