Melissa “Anne” Watt

WELLINGTON-Melissa “Anne” Watt, 76, returned with honor Feb. 14, 2010 to her heavenly home and to the waiting arms of her “Forever Valentine,” James. Anne was born May 26, 1933 at Victor, Utah to James Kershew Wells and Vena May (Pierce) Wells. She married James A. Watt III on Sept. 8, 1951. Marriage later solemnized in the Manti LDS temple.
Anne was raised on the family ranch at Victor. This particular spot of “terra firma” was a place that Anne loved dearly and needed to visit frequently throughout her life. The ranch at Victor held treasured family memories for Anne and visiting there brought her a certain peace and contentment.
The Wells family home environment and parental example inspired avid readers and great scriptorians. Anne loved studying the scriptures and she possessed a vast and in depth knowledge of their contents. Anne knew her Savior well and in a very personal way and her greatest desire was that all of her loved ones enjoy this same closeness and blessing in their lives.
Anne was a gifted individual in so many ways. In her younger years, she was highly competitive at sports and was a great softball player. Actually, she was highly competitive at any type of game-just ask any of her grandchildren…she always owned the bank and decided how money could be loaned for Monopoly.
Anne was also a great gardener, seamstress, cook, and an especially gifted musician. Although the accordion was her instrument of choice, Anne was a quick study and mastered many other instruments as well. She taught music lessons for several years and passed on her talents to others in this way. Anne simply loved music and the frequent jam sessions and “Fugitive” band practices that were held at the Watt home for many years, brought her great joy.
Parting is difficult, but our dear mother has earned a sweet rest. We can never be thankful enough for the hard work, love, tears and prayers that she has offered continually throughout the years in our behalf. We are truly grateful for good memories and good examples and for the special gifts of faith and music with which our lives have been forever blessed.
Anne is survived by children; Janna (Ernest) Monson, Wellington; Kay (Diane) Watt, Carbonville; Joyce (Karl) Houskeeper, Wellington; Julie (Edward) Durrant, Paradise, 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, brothers: Robert E. Wells, Gary Watt, Gary Christensen, Larry Lauritsen, sisters: Pat Christensen, Verna Lauritsen, Colleen Wells, Carol Wells, Marilyn Watt. Preceded in death by parents; husband: James; Brothers: Lynn, Ray, and Dal; sisters: Leah, and Jean.
Funeral services will be held Thursday Feb. 18, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Wellington Fourth Ward Chapel (50 N. 100 E.). Viewing will be Wednesday Feb. 17, from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary (680 E. 100 S.) in Price, Utah, and Thursday from 12:45-1:45 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Wellington City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
