EAST CARBON-Our loving father, Ray Alney Hall age 89, passed away Feb. 20, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born Feb. 28, 1920 in Bent County, Colo. to Winford Scott and Julia Boletta Greenwood Hall. Ray was an amazing man, husband and father. He excelled at whatever he tried, and tried a little of everything. Ray was a master craftsman. He started a homebuilding business in Pittsburg, Kan. shortly after discharge from the U.S. Navy.
After moving to East Carbon to work in the coal mines, he spearheaded the construction of Trinity Episcopal Church in East Carbon. He remodeled his home and many others for friends and neighbors. Ray’s hand crafted bowls and furniture are keepsakes treasured by many, while his prize fruit trees and vegetables were enjoyed throughout the years by friends and family lucky enough to be on the receiving end of his generosity.
Ray’s mastery of double 12 dominos is legendary, and he continued to trounce family members even after suffering a stroke in 2008. Ray and Lois, his sweetheart and wife of nearly 50 years, loved traveling in their motor home and visiting many of America’s state parks and recreation areas. Ray was hard working and set a remarkable example of strength, honesty and integrity for those around him. He served four years in the U.S. Navy and was a long-standing member of the United Mine Workers of America.
Ray was preceded in death by his beloved Lois, daughter Linda Rae (James Anderson) and two sisters, Faye Johnson and Alice Varner.
He is survived by one sister, Frances Daniel, daughter Diane (Mark Bromberg) and grandchildren Justin Banks (Jamie Booth), Bryan Banks (Natalie Shutt), Elizabeth Kelcey Anderson (Kasongo Kalumbula) and Jeffrey Banks (Cara Rosato), as well as two great-grandchildren, Miles Titus Banks and Lyndia Zawadi Kalumbula. Ray will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Many thanks to Dr. Sarah Goodlin and the staff at Brighton Gardens in Salt Lake City for their loving care during Ray’s last two years.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Feb. 24, 2010 at St. Matthews Ascension Church, 522 Homestead Blvd. in Price, Utah. The family will greet friends at the church starting at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily. Memories of Ray can be shared at mitchellfuneralhome.net.
