ORANGEVILLE-Lyman Jack Curtis, 87 passed away in Emery County Care Center March 15, 2010 surrounded by his family. Jack was born Nov. 29, 1922 in Orangeville, Utah to William Lyman and Cora Susan Sitterud Curtis. He served in the European area in the Army during WWII as a combat engineer from 1943-1947.
He worked in mining but the love of his life’s work was spent as a rancher. He married Mary Alice Albrechtsen on Aug 11, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. He has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was also a former mayor and post master of Orangeville. He loved farming and gardening and was able to make anything grow and he loved to share the fruits of his labors with others.
He had a wonderful sense of humor that made everyone he met an instant friend. Jack was especially happy when he was gathered around the dinner table with all his family. His family was his pride and joy and he always showed an unconditional love for them all.
Mary was always his first and most special love. If you needed Jack, you could always look on the farm. He was the one who was always wearing his hat. He enjoyed being a regular at the Food Ranch too. He loved great, and great was the love that was returned to him.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Mary Alice Curtis: also his children, Teresa (Ray) Jeffs, Gary (Kelli) Curtis, Curt Curtis all of Orangeville, and Leann (Rick) Snow of Castle Dale. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and his siblings George (Edel) Curtis of American Fork, Joyce Curtis of Ogden, Jean Curtis, Carol Taylor, and Merlin Mayberry all of Roy. He was preceded in death by a daughter Gaila Curtis, his parents, a sister Beatrice Harrison, two brothers Bill and Roger Curtis and twin granddaughters Lisa and Samantha Snow.
Friends may call for a visitation at the Heritage Funeral Home in Huntington on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Orangeville Ward Chapel on First South and Main Street on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. with a viewing at the church an hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the Orangeville City Cemetery under the trusted care of Heritage Funeral Home.
