EAST CARBON-Our beloved, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Charles Ray Hunter, age 81, passed away on March 20, 2010 after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. He was born March 17, 1929 to Robert and Margurite Kerr Hunter in Mutual, Utah. He married Norma Tidwell Winder on April 27, 1950. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on Feb. 26, 1977.
Charles learned the value of hard work early; he lost his mother when he was only 14 years old. Charles always held a soft spot for the little ones. He loved them and they loved him. He served his country in the Coast Guard. He worked 42 years in mining and retired from Kaiser Steel in 1991. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings including bishop. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Family and friends benefited from his bountiful harvests.
Charles is survived by his wife, Norma of nearly 60 years; their children: son-in-law, Elmer Haggadone of Rogers, Ark. and his two children: Wondra (Gary) Cooke, and Cash (Christy) Haggadone; Verdis (Claudia) Winder of Randolph, Utah and their four boys: Wayne (Tammy), Robert (Amy), Charley (Elizabeth), and Anthony (Lexi); Sharon (Peter) Kocum of East Carbon and their two boys: Tim Clark (Bridgette) and Cameron Kocum; Doug (Jerri) Hunter of Green River, Wyo. and their three children: April (Mark) Darrough, Brandon Hunter, and JaNell (Eric) Tanner; Rosie (Raul) Mena of East Carbon, Utah and their three children: Scott (Laurie), Bryan (Lisa), and Monica (Jake) Nyland; 41 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; children: Ronnie Jean Winder, Richard Winder and Phyllis Haggadone; grandchild, Sebestian Clark; and siblings: Dale, Keith, Margurite, and Nedra Hunter.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the East Carbon LDS Church. A viewing will be held Friday March 26, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary (680 East 100 South-Price, Utah) and on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
