Junior highs finish basketball season

In the recently completed Castle Valley Association junior high basketball tournaments, the San Rafael boys defeated Mont Harmon 57-49 for the title to claim the tournament championship. San Rafael also was the regular season champion and had the first seed in the tournament.
The Canyon View Cougars girls team also completed the season as the league champion, grabbed the number one seed in the tournament and then won the championship game 52-41 over San Rafael.
In the girl’s tournament, San Rafael defeated Mont Harmon and Canyon View made the championship game due to a forfeit by Helper Junior High.
Ashlynn Allred led the Cougars with 15 points in the championship game. Allred, a seventh grader, scored 13 points in the first half to help Canyon View lead at the half 27-18. Canyon View led after the first quarter 12-8 but went scoreless for 4 and half minutes in the second quarter before 15 points in the last three and half minutes of the half.
Jessica Guymon scored 12 points in the second half and 14 points in the game as Canyon View built a 20 point lead in the second half.
Also scoring for Canyon View were Hailey Procarione with eight points, Kelsey Gordon with four points, Brittany Huntsman with four points, Jaiden Huntington with four points, Amaysa Austin with two points and Auminee Bennett with one point.
Scoring for San Rafael were Shandee Jewkes with 11 points, Bryton Hess with six points, Abby Jacobson with seven points, Kelsie Cox with five points, Natalie Dickman with three points and Sidnee Conder, Ryann Carter and Maria Behling with two points each.
The San Rafael boy’s team defeated Helper in the opening game 59-31. In that game Tayler Hansen led the team with 12 points and Josh Bell dropped in 10 points. In the championship game, Bell was the leading scorer with 15 points. Tyson Roper added 14 points for his team.
