HUNTINGTON-Our dear brother, uncle and friend, Leonard Hal “Cass” Nielson, age 85, passed away on March 19, 2010 at the Emery County Nursing Home in Ferron. Hal was born in Ogden, Utah on March 16, 1925, to Roosevelt “Ted” and Verna Leonard Nielson. Raised in Huntington, Hal served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked for the Utah Department of Transportation. Hal was an active member of the LDS church and cherished that association and involvement. He was President of the Huntington Men’s Glee Club. Hal was passionate about family, and, though he had no children of this own, he was “Father and Grandfather” to many of us. He has left a huge hole in our lives and will be terribly missed.
He is survived by two sisters, Janet (Bert) Leamaster of Huntington, and Pat Fessenden of Salt Lake City, and nine nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Virginia Nielson Howard.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Huntington LDS Stake Center (240 North Main). A viewing will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2010, from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale and on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Huntington City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guestbook and share memories of Hal at www.fausettmortuary.com.
