PRICE-Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Athena Georgedes Vignetto, age 87, passed away March 29, 2010.
She was born in Price, Utah on Aug. 8, 1922 to Angelo and Effie Domenko Georgedes.
Married Jack M. Vignetto, Feb. 14, 1943 in Price, Utah; he died May 2, 2006.
Athena had an infectious smile, boundless energy and loved life. She was a pioneer in Utah for professional women and was proud to be the first woman in Utah named as a District Manager for Utah State Job Service. She worked 35 years helping men and women in Carbon and Emery counties find employment.
She worked diligently with the College of Eastern Utah, playing a role in developing vocational programs.
Athena was active in the Greek Orthodox Church, singing in the choir. She loved gardening and was an excellent knitter. She loved the outdoors and spent time with family camping, boating and fishing at Scofield, Flaming Gorge, and Strawberry. She and her late husband, Jack, loved their 18 winters in their second home in Yuma, Ariz. In her earlier years, she was a skier and horsewoman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Vignetto; her grandson, Dr. Darren Bruce Bean; sister, Elaine Nelson; and brother, John Georgedes.
Survived by her daughter, Danielle Schiller Bean (Brian); two sisters, Mary Porter and Florence Johnston; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Parker Bean (Stacey) and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Silverado Alzheimer Senior Living in Salt Lake City for the loving care they gave her the past 3 1/2 years. The nurses and Silverado Hospice gave her such loving and tender care in her last days. Thank you and you are special angels in our eyes.
Graveside service was held, Saturday, April 3, 2010, 1:30 p.m. at Mt. View Cemetery in Helper. Family received friends at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., with an opportunity for friends to share memories beginning at 12:30 p.m. Online condolences can be shared at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are welcome daily.
