EMERY-Our beloved Donald Jewell Riddle returned to his Heavenly Father on April 2, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by his loving family. He was born Feb. 14, 1943 in Detroit, Mich. to Jewell and Bertha Evelyn Neely Riddle.
Don was baptized into the LDS Church in 1965 and embraced the gospel throughout his life. He loved his missionary work. Don married Judith Morrine Cole in Spring Valley, Calif. on June 11, 1965. They were later sealed together in the Los Angeles Temple in 1969.
Don was retired from the Aerospace industry in San Diego, Calif. in 1999. The family moved to Emery in 1999. Don loved the little town. He often said it was “The Land of Zion” where the Lord rested on the seventh day.
Don loved gardening and working around the home. Helping people was very important to him as he often looked for and found ways to provide service. Don enlisted in the US Army when he was 17, and at 20 years old he enlisted in the US Navy. Later he served for seven years in the California National Guard.
He was raised in Southern Illinois on a farm with 10 brothers and sisters. His seven children and their families were the light of his life and his 32 grandchildren adored him.
Don is survived by his wife of 44 years Judith “Judi” Riddle of Emery, children Donald Craig and Karen Riddle of Vista, Calif., Deirdre and Brian Judd of Price, Jeffrey and Amy Riddle of Surprise, Ariz., Alan Paul and Bernadette Riddle of Orangeville, Todd Riddle of Billings, Mont., Mary Laura and Rick Nelson of Salina, and Evelyn Rebecca Riddle and Billy King of Las Vegas, Nev., 32 grandchildren, and two brothers, Harry Riddle of Washington, Bill Riddle of California, three sisters, Jean Pittman of Tennesee, Linda Nikodym of Texas, Helen Beisner of Illonois, and two sisters-in-law, Susan Cole of Emery, and Kathy Klemczak of Florida.
Funeral services were held in the Emery Ward Chapel in Emery, Utah, on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. Interment followed in the Emery City Cemetery under the trusted care of The Heritage Funeral Home of Huntington, Utah.
