The Friends of the Green River Positive Action Community Team, Inc. (PACT) needs volunteers to help run the multitude of community services provided in Green River. With a population of only 972 residents, Green River could truly use some help from its neighbors in Price, Moab, and all of Utah.
PACT actively works to provide much needed social services for every resident within the small rural community of Green River. Through senior outreach, youth recreation and prevention programs, promotion of healthy lifestyles, adult and family education programs, early childhood education, economic growth instigation, affordable housing assistance, volunteer coordination, and access to community resources, PACT strives to reach the potential in all of us.
PACT operates the Green River Community Center (GRCC), Boys and Girls Club, eight affordable apartment units, the Green River Thrift Store, the Economic Progress Instigation Center (Epicenter, an affordable housing and business resource center), a Food Bank, and a Headstart facility.
Volunteer opportunities include but are not limited to: helping set-up and run Project Green River: a music, art, and film festival on June 4-5, removing debris from the demolition site of the old Green River Community Center building on Broadway, assisting the with Around the Wolrd In 50 Days Summer Camp (June-August), organizing merchandise and working at the thrift store, cooking in the kitchen of the GRCC, teaching the after-school program children at the GRCC, deliver meals to senior-citizens, unload the Food Bank truck (second Tuesday of every month at 9 a.m.), help build a Habitat For Humanity house, and answer phones at the Community Center.

June 4-5: Project Green River: A Festival Green River is holding a free outdoor arts festival on Broadway June 4-5 The weekend festivities will feature regional bands, artists, and a short-films screening.
All of the attractions will be held on Broadway (perpendicular to Main Street), and there will be one main performance stage, two indoor art galleries, a beer garden, a carnival with rides and games, vendors, artist booths, and food. The festival is not only about celebrating summer time in Green River, but also about raising money to build affordable houses for Green River residents.
The event seeks to spread awareness of the extreme housing crisis in the small rural community and stimulate the struggling economy. Project Green River needs help in the form of sponsors, participants (bands, artists, performers, vendors, artisans, crafters, etc.), volunteers, and attendees.
The festival’s planners are currently taking submission for music, short films, and art. Project Green River needs local (and not so local) volunteers for the week before (June 2-4) and the weekend of the festival (June 4-5). They need enthusiastic people who would like to greet festival attendees, provide information, set-up stages, chairs, and sound equipment, break-down equipment, clean-up after the festivities, sell merchandise, run a raffle, etc. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt.
Interested in selling handmade items at the festival or advertising at the festival? Spaces will be available along Broadway for entities either selling locally-made/hand-made items or organizations interested in advertising their services.
Project Green River is being planned by the Green River Community Center’s Epicenter (the Economic Progress Instigation Center, an affordable housing and business resource center started by AmeriCorps VISTAs) and enthusiastic residents of Green River.
Call 435-564-3330 for more information on how to get involved, sponsor, or attend the festival.
