Emily Mae Ralphs Daetwyler, 91, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed from this life on March 31, 2010 in Peoria, Ariz.
Emily was born on May 5, 1918, to Mirl Hunter Ralphs and Blanche Cook at her grandfather James Cook’s home in Ferron, Utah. She was the second child of seven. She grew up on the family farm in Rochester and graduated from South Emery High School. Upon her graduation she moved to Springville, Utah to work and a few years later she moved to Salt Lake City for employment.
While working in Salt Lake she met and fell in love with Harold Edward Daetwyler, originally from Helvetia, W. V., whom she married on Nov., 24, 1946 in Ferron, Utah. Emily and Harold made their home and raised their family in upstate New York and Littleton, Colo. In later years, Emily made her home in Wichita Falls, Texas, Edgewood, Wash. and Peoria, Ariz. to be near her children and grandchildren.
Emily was a homemaker in the truest sense. Her talents for making her home an inviting and beautiful place were unequalled. Emily was known throughout the neighborhoods in which she lived for her beautiful gardens, both vegetable and flower. Her yard and her home inside were always immaculate. She was a wonderful hostess and was a cook extraordinaire. Her sewing skills were demonstrated as a young woman, designing and making her own clothes, coats and hats. She created new clothes for her children as they grew up. Her great- grandchildren treasure their blankets made by Grandma Daet. Emily has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life and served with dedication and compassion to the little children as well as the adults. Not only was she involved in all the auxiliaries, but the bazaars, dances, plays and parties succeeded because of her determination and involvement. Everyone was her friend and she particularly sought out those who needed love and fellowship.
She is survived by her four children, Patricia Ann Worton and husband, Keith B., of Edgewood, Wash.; Kathleen Warnock and husband, Kenneth, of Wichita Falls, Texas; Edward Paul Daetwyler and wife, Sally, of Evansville, Ind.; and Loretta Jean Babbel and husband, Michael, of Peoria, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two of her sisters, Louise Anderson of South Jordan, Utah and Anna Lee Johansen of Holliday, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband and sweetheart, Harold Edward Daetwyler in 2004.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 555 S. 400 W. in Ferron, Utah on May 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Ferron City Cemetery following the services under the trusted care of the Heritage Funeral Home of Huntington, Utah.
