KANAB, UTAH: Some people go through life following all the rules. The celebrated life of Sherri Crofts Williams is not one of those. For her, rules simply presented a challenge and an opportunity for fun.
Sherri, age 61, Kanab, Utah; left this world on Saturday, April 17 after losing the fight of alcoholism which wore her fun-loving spirit and body down.
Born and raised in Kanab to Jack and Gloria Crofts on Aug. 25, 1948, Sherri made friends wherever she was and was always the life of the party. She grew up with her brothers Jackson and Mark and sister Paula exploring the hidden canyons around Kanab and playing at the sand dunes.
She had the unique ability to pick up any craft she set her mind to and loved needlepoint, jewelry making, tole painting, shopping, and cooking. Her fingernails were constantly changing works of art and she always had at least one pet, many of which were strays she’d adopt and take care of. Funny thing was, her caring nature also resulted in her picking up a few stray people as well.
Sherri moved to Castle Dale, Utah with her former husband Lonnie Walters and sons. She later divorced and met Jim Williams and they were married in 1981. She and Jim made Castle Dale their home until 2008 when she returned to Kanab to help her son Matt and Jim remodel and manage the Quail Park Lodge, of which she was very proud.
Sherri is survived by her husband, Jim Williams (Kanab), previous husband, Lonnie Walters (Tooele), her two sons Matt Walters (Seattle) and Travis Walters (England), her grandchildren Amanda and Ashton Walters (Seattle), her mother Gloria Crofts (Kanab), brothers Jackson (Orem) and Mark (Kanab), and sister Paula VanDenberghe (Cedar City).
Extended family includes her step-sons: Tommy Williams,(Florida), Bobby Williams, (Alabama); step-daughter Linda Morgan (Missouri); brother-in-law Wiley Williams (Georgia) and sister-in-law Doris Bowman (Florida) and last but not least, her favorite companions, Lexus her dog and cat Baby.
A celebration of Sherri’s life will be held at a future date.
