PRICE-Our loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Ferris J Hunt, age 83, passed away at his home while surrounded by his family on May 9, 2010.
He was born May 21, 1926 in Green River, Utah to Elias and Eva Johnson Hunt.
Married Malinda “Mindy” Hoggatt on Nov. 13, 1949 in Ely, Nev.
Ferris was a graduate of Green River High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he served in the Pacific Theatre and later participated in the atomic bomb tests known as “Operation Crossroads” at Bikini Atoll. Ferris worked for UDOT for 37 years as a engineer.
He was the last surviving charter member of the Green River American Legion Post #103. He made sure that each veteran buried in the Elgin Cemetery was properly recognized for their service to their country. Member of the Price Elks lodge #1550. Ferris enjoyed gardening, good lively conversations, caring for his family and taking care of everyone in his own special way. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survived by his loving wife, Mindy Hunt, Price, Utah; children, Jon (Sheryl) Hunt, Schedelbach, Germany; Susan Turner, Sunnyside, Utah; Dan (Lisa) Hunt, Helper, Utah; sister, Maedell (Gary) Ekker, Green River, Utah; nieces and nephew, Lyda (Dale) Crane, Lynda (Jesus) Zamora, Carla (Roger) Jones, Chet (Brenna) Hunt; partner in highways and a granddaughter, Don Shurtz; “special” nephew, Kenny (Vena) Tryon; eight grandchildren, Jenny Turner, Malinda “Bo” (Jason) Roth, Lorraine Turner, Range Hunt, Kaleb Hunt, Jeremy Hunt, Cody Hunt, Jessica Hunt; five great grandchildren, Dillon Hunt, Seth Hunt, Drew Hunt, Cy Roth and Dawson Roth.
Preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Tim (Julie) Hunt; son-in-law, Ben Turner; grandson, Jeffery Hunt; parents; four brothers and four sisters.
Graveside service Thursday, May 13, 2010, 11 a.m., Elgin Cemetery in Green River, Utah. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. Military honors accorded by the Green River and Price American Legions.
