Carbon and Emery emergency planners are organizing for the annual Emergency Preparedness Fair. This year’s Fair will be June 18 at the Emery Spartan Center in Castle Dale, 4-8 p.m.
Ron Mosher, Operations Bureau Chief of the Utah Division of Homeland Security is the featured guest speaker. Mosher will share insights into our area’s unique challenges for emergency planning based on 29 years in the public safety community. He will especially focus on individual responsibility to be prepared for any emergency. Mosher notes that with fires in the St. George area residents who were prepared were able to evacuate within minutes and be more self-reliant in the aftermath.
Mosher began his career with the Fairfax County Police Department of Fairfax, Va. In 1974 he joined the Millard County Sheriff’s Office as deputy. The next year he was hired by the Orem Department of Public Safety in 1975 where he continued until he retired in 1996. Mosher was a certified Logistics Section Chief, serving five years with an Eastern Great Basin Type II Incident Management Team. He has an extremely broad range of experiences ranging from the FBI National Academy to the Olympics.
During the 2002 Winter Olympics Mosher represented the State of Utah Division of Comprehensive Emergency Management during the final planning stages. During the operational phase he was a member of the Utah Olympic Public Safety Command. He was part of the integrated security team for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, and spent 18 months in Greece.
Residents of Emery and Carbon counties can drop in at the Emergency Preparedness fair from 4-8 p.m. and visit with vendors, medical specialists, and find out how to better prepare themselves and our communities for a variety of emergencies. Bring the family and treat yourselves to free hotdogs and hamburgers from 4-6 p.m. Then at 6 p.m. listen to the expertise of Mosher on getting prepared.
