HELPER-Eulogio J. “Little Joe” Salas, age 86, passed away suddenly May 29, 2010 in Price.
He was born March 11, 1924 in Chandler, Colo. to Jose and Dolores Perez Salas.
Shortly after graduating from Florence High School in Colorado the family moved to Standardville where he realized the value of work and the importance of a good education. He began working in the mining industry, and at the age of 30 moved to Salt Lake where he enrolled at the University of Utah. In 1958, he graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelors in Accounting. Eulogio retired from the Federal Civil Service after working at Hill Air Force Base for 27 years. After his retirement, he returned to Helper to be with his family.
“Little Joe” loved sports, fishing and he spent countless hours playing all sorts of solitaire. He was a member of the Catholic Church and longtime resident of Helper. Eulogio will always be remembered for his soft spoken ways and his generosity to others.
He is survived by a sister, Ramona Salas, of Helper, brothers, Alfonso (Lou) Salas, Albuquerque, N.M., Julian (Marie) Salas, Salt Lake City; 10 nieces and nephews, 22 grandnieces and nephews, and four great-grandnieces and nephews.
“Little Joe” was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Nicandra; and brothers, Anacleto and Victor.
Funeral Mass, Wednesday, June 2, 2010, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Vigil service, Tuesday evening 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family received friends at the church in Helper Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery in Helper. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Joe at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
