PRICE-Jose F. Gurule`, age 80, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Saratoga Springs, Utah on May 31, 2010 while surrounded by his family.
He was born in Grand Junction, Colo. on Jan. 19, 1930 and was the last surviving sibling born to Epimenio and Felicita (Chavez) Gurule`
On June 11, 1949, he married Vera Zaccaria at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Price and they made sure that their home was a welcoming place for all to enjoy.
Jose was a member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime resident of Carbon County and a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America Local #1859. He was a dedicated employee of Western Coal Carriers for more than 20 years.
“Papa Joe”was a craftsman and he truly enjoyed working with his hands. He loved to fish, camp, hunt, and travel with his family and friends. He always greeted everyone with a big smile and a warm hello. He was a friend to all, a stranger to no one and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife, Vera (Zaccaria) Gurule`, Price; five sons and three daughters; Mike (Della) Gurule`, George (Marlene) Gurule`, Frank (Kathy) Gurule`, all of Price, Phillis (Robert) Salazar, Las Vegas, Nev., John (Sherree) Gurule`, Price, Constance Taylor, Ogden, Orie (Betty) Gurule`, Price, Jo Ann (Rick) Richey, Saratoga Springs; other children who brought great joy into their home, Sam Garcia, Mesquite, Nev., Linda Garcia, Salt Lake City, Robert Burrola, Tom Burrola, both of Salt Lake City, Earlene Powell, Price; 38 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews and his loving dog “Fido”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, five sisters, and foster son, Joe.
Funeral Mass, Saturday, June 5, 2010, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service, Friday evening 7 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family received friends at Mitchell’s Friday and Saturday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Cliffview Cemetery, Price. Friends are welcome at Mitchell’s daily and may share online remembrances of “Jose” at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
