PRICE-Our loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend, Domenic Vincent Mele, age 87, passed away July 25, 2010 in Price.
He was born June 14, 1923 in Sunnyside, Utah to Salvatore and Rosina Oliveto Mele.
“Gordo” was a longtime resident of Carbon County where he attended Carbon College and excelled in football. Served in the U.S. Navy during WW II where he began his amateur boxing career that continued after being honorably discharged.
He retired from the United Mine Workers of America, Kaiser Steel Local #9958 after 34 years of distinguished service. “Gordo” began working for Kaiser after agreeing to play for their baseball team in the Coal League (where he was known for his knuckle drop ball).
Survived by his children, Domenic, Cindy Marchello, Marilyn (Joe) Graham, Keith (Careshmeh), Kevin (Kris); siblings, Sam, Tony, Helen, Louis and Rosie; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, sister, Dolly; brother, Pete; and infant daughter Enett.
Graveside service, Wednesday, July 28, 2010, 11 a.m., Cliffview Cemetery in Price. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of “Gordo” at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
