The Huntington City Beautification Committee has decided to honor some of the beautiful yards in the city. Each week two beautiful yards will be chosen and will be awarded with the Huntington Beautiful Yard, for that week, signs. These recognition placards will be placed in the front yards of those beautiful yards. One yard will be honored on the east side of Main Street and one yard will be honored on the west side of Main Street.
The Huntington City Beautification Committee will hold a Yard Beautification Contest. On Sept. 1 one award of $200 will be given to the Most Beautiful Yard in Huntington. Another $200 award will be given to the Most Improved Yard. In order to qualify for the Most Improved yard, people should take before and after pictures and fill out a form at City Hall. For the Most Improved Yard contest there is a $2 signup fee.
There is no charge for the $200 award for the Most Beautiful Yard.
The beautification committee said, “So, all you gardeners, let’s beautify Huntington by beautifying our yards, and, be sure to look around to congratulate those two yards each week that have earned the Beautiful Yard for the week signs. The first week’s winners on the west side of Main Street was the Dennis and Kaylene Pearson yard. The winner on the east side of Main Street was the Bryce and Luanne Wilson yard.
The Pearsons have worked hard on their yard. They held their son Chandler’s wedding reception in the back yard. They envision some day holding a wedding reception for their daughter Meghan as well. The large hanging pots of flowers add to the festive atmosphere in the yard. The backyard fountain which Dennis crafted brings a sense of peace and calm with the running water. The Pearsons are excited to use their back yard and if you would like to contact them to hold a reception there then they invite you to give them a call.
