The Desertview Pro Rodeo number 12 is slated to come to town on July 29, 30, 31, at the rodeo arena in Castle Dale. For 12 straight years the Desertview Pro Rodeo has grown larger and is now in its special 12th big year. The rodeo committee knows the success of this rodeo is due to the greatest rodeo fans and sponsors in the country. The three day event will be jam packed with cowboys and cowgirls from all over the country competing for big money purses. For the fourth year the Desertview Pro Rodeo is a sanctioned Dodge Rodeo.
National Rodeo Finals riders will make an appearance at the Desertview Pro Rodeo. Cowboys and cowgirls sure to please the crowd include: Matt Chiozawa, calf roper from Chubbock, Idaho; Monty Joe Petska from Turlock, Calif. in team roping; Nate Baldwin from Blackfoot, Idaho in calf roping; Jess Davis from Payson in bareback; Castle Dale’s own AnnDee Adams in barrel racing; Levi Barry from Kaysville in saddle bronc; Zack Elliot from Thatcher in bull riding; Jake Hannum from Ogden in calf roping; Dusty Morse from Randolf in team roping; Kade Richard and Rhen Richard from Roosevelt in team roping; these brothers are former Union High athletes who competed against Emery High and are great cowboys; Huntington cowboy Justin Truman will compete in calf roping and steer roping; Kache Moosman from Price will ride a bull and Rachel Krompel from Price will compete in barrel racing. Cowboys and cowgirls from Texas, California, Nevada and Idaho and other points in between will ride into Castle Dale for fine pro rodeo action.
Introduced at the Desertview Pro Rodeo 2008 was the hide race and it will continue at this year’s event. Ike Sankey, rodeo stock producer is one of the entrants in this event. His son Wade Sankey has signed up to ride bareback and saddle bronc. The Desertview Pro Rodeo is looking for a few brave men and women to try their luck at the hide race. Riders will enter the ring and their partner will jump on the hide and hang on for the ride of their lives around the barrel and back out of the arena for a timed score. Event organizers hope to have at least 15 teams participate in this event, so call now to reserve your spot. The entry fee is $50 per team for all three nights. Winning team receives $250 per night. Overall winners receive belt buckles. This event is each night at the Desertview Pro Rodeo which begins at 7:30 p.m. Call Emery Recreation Department at 435-381-2108 to register. Friday night is Price Auto Group Night at the Pro Rodeo and the chance to win a new Dodge truck.
Friday night will be the horseshoe throwing event to win a Dodge truck. Three lucky people will have the chance to win a new Dodge. If the participants don’t win the truck, they will keep throwing for a cash prize.
Each night of the rodeo will feature the wild cow milking event. Local cowboys compete for prize money and all around belt buckles for the overall champions. This is Emery County’s truly extreme, unique event. Don’t miss this event because you will be entertained to the max with this wild action.
The Desertview Pro Rodeo has attracted some local cowboys as well as cowboys from all over the country.
The rodeo begins at 7:30 p.m. each evening under the Emery County blue skies.
On Thursday night of the rodeo is the Desertview Federal Credit Union night. This night there will be a text messaging contest. The fastest texter will win two tickets to the National Finals Rodeo and a nights stay at the South Point Hotel and Casino. All those 21 years of age and older can participate in the texting contest. The announcer will ask a question and the person to text the correct answer to the number given will be the winner. The winning incoming text message will be determined by the order it comes in. For example texter number 100 might win or texter number 50.
The Desertview Pro Rodeo committee wonders if you are “Tough Enough to Wear Pink.” The rodeo committee wants every rodeo fan through the gate on Saturday night to show their support by wearing a pink shirt, hat, ribbon or just anything will do. The Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife have donated a rifle to be raffled off and all proceeds from raffle ticket sales will go to cancer awareness. You can buy raffle tickets at the gate. You don’t have to be present to win the raffle. Raffle ticket sales will go on throughout the three day rodeo.
“Tough Enough to Wear Pink” has been raising big bucks for cancer across the nation. Some of the largest rodeos in the nation have climbed on board. Many of them have raised $30,000 and more for a single event.
Wrangler is a partner in the cause and donates all of the money from the sale of pink shirts to cancer awareness.

Sankey Rodeo production will provide the rodeo stock for the event. Sankey is known far and wide for his rodeo animals who know their job and perform it well. His stock is used every year at the National Rodeo Finals held each year in Las Vegas.

New to the Desertview Pro Rodeo this year is the steer roping. It’s a lot like calf roping but involves a steer. It’s a one person event where the cowboy ropes the steer and then trips the steer and wrestles it to the ground and ties it down.
Also this year is a combo ticket special, good for all three nights of rodeo action at a reduced price. This special ticket deal is only available at Desertview Federal Credit Union branches in Huntington and Ferron. Advance tickets are available at BKs Stop-n-Shop, Headquarters, Emery County Treasurer’s Office, Emery County Recreation, Desertview Credit Union in Huntington and Ferron, Gilly’s, Food Ranch, Green River City Hall and Intermountain Farmers in Price.
The speciality act for this year’s rodeo is Vince Bruce. A dance will be held on Friday and Saturday nights after the rodeo with the band Haywire.
Rodeo concessions will be offered each night for the hungry cowboy and cowgirl. The Castle Valley Lamb Fry will also take place in the fairgrounds park the three days of the rodeo. The Desertview Pro Rodeo kicks off two weeks of fun and the Emery County Fair begins Aug. 4 with a free swim and free ice cream at the Emery County aquatics center. Events continue Aug. 5-7, culminating with the huge, free Charley Jenkins concert on Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Aquatics Park.
