Dear Mom,
We watched Parkinson’s Disease rob you of your body and most of your memory. Our irritation with PD’s symptoms did not lessen our love for you. It did bring many tears and sadness to see you suffer so. Your disease tested our character and hopefully we passed more than we failed. Thank you for your courage and your strength. Love, your family.
God chose to call Helen Marie Olson home on Aug. 16, 2010 at the age of 83.
She was born to immigrant parents Katarina Ozanich and Anton Kuretich on Aug. 26, 1926 in Helper, Utah, she was the last survivor of five sisters. She married Lawrence Olson, later divorced.
Helen was a loving and caring stay at home mom for many years until circumstances forced her into the workplace. She took classes to sharpen her skills. Helen was employed at Helper State Bank, Price Auto Parts, Carbon County Assessors Office, and UDOT, where she finally retired.
She loved the outdoors, being with family and friends, camping, golfing, and was noted as an outstanding pitcher in a women’s softball league for many years. She was a devout Catholic who loved God and her faith.
Helen is survived by one son and twin daughters, Brent “Olie”Olson (Judie); Tammy Olson Gentry Hoffman (Dave); Tonya Olson Gianini; former son-in-law and special friend, John Gianini; five grandchildren, Monica Olson Baggs, Terry Olson, Tina Gentry Moore, John M. Gianini, Kimberly Gentry Heaton; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, brother, Anthony Kuretich; sisters, Pauline Pollack, Sylvia Jackson, Donna Thomas, and Frances Skaggs; and her precious granddaughter, Billy Gentry Brown.
Funeral Mass, Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service, Thursday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Thursday and Friday one hour prior to service. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
