Gordon “Gordy” Newbold

HELPER-Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and brother, Gordon H. Newbold, 83, passed away Aug. 27, 2010 in Helper, Utah.
He was born Dec. 20, 1926 in Preston, Idaho to Richard and Cora Poole Newbold.
On July 26, 1945, he married his beloved Lois McConnell in Salt Lake City, Utah.
“Gordy” was a faithful member of the Price Chapel where he enjoyed the fellowship of his church family. In 1983 he retired as the Carbon Plant Manager for Utah Power and Light. Gordon proudly served his country in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Joppa Lodge # 26 F.& A.M. and a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner.
He was elected to the Helper City Council in 1983 and later served as chairman of the institutional council at The College of Eastern Utah when the BDAC was built. For his outstanding contributions to the power generation industry, Gordon received the first lifetime achievement award ever granted by the Southeastern Utah Energy Producers Association.
“Gordy” enjoyed gardening, golfing, family gatherings, 3-D puzzles, painting and in past years hunting and fishing. He will always be remembered for his generosity and devotion to others.
Survived by his loving wife, Lois Newbold; children, Jerri (Elliott) Burgess, Larry (Lynn) Newbold; grandchildren, Randy (Connie) Burgess, Kristen (Todd) Leech, Melissa (Dave) Herrera, Shelly Weeks, Tamara (Joe) Butcher; six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Jeffs; brother, DeVere (Alice) Newbold; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Wayne and Kay Newbold; and grandson, Bobby Newbold.
Funeral service, Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, 2 p.m., Price Chapel, 611 West Price River Drive, Price. Family received friends at the Price Chapel Monday evening from 7-8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
