SPRING GLEN-Constance “Connie” Jean Herrling Bruno, age 86, passed away Sept. 11, 2010 at her home in Spring Glen, Utah as she wished with her loving family by her side.
She was born March 1, 1924 at the Herrling Homestead in Trinidad, Colo. to Constantine J. and Rebecca J. Rish Herrling.
Connie worked as a telegrapher for the D.& R.G.W. Railroad at Soldier Summit, Utah where she met her husband Rudy. On June 1, 1950, they were married at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Together they raised their children in Spring Glen in a home they built together.
Connie continued her education completing the LPN course at College of Eastern Utah. For 15 years at Castleview Hospital in Price, Utah she provided excellent nursing care specializing in newborn nursery and was exceptional in caring for premature infants. In her younger years, Connie enjoyed hiking on the “hill” behind her home in Trinidad, Colo.
She developed an appreciation for fine arts, literature and excelled in drama. Connie was an avid Utah Jazz fan. She enjoyed baking, gardening and especially caring for her pink petunias, blue spruce trees and her globe willows.
Connie was a dedicated member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. She had many long time friends who helped her maintain her independence.
Survived by her children, Mary R. Fasig, Dr. Michael R. (Efthemia) Bruno, Casper, Wyo., Melanie J. (Jim) Short, Sealy, Texas, Amy M. (John) Bruno Wolfe, Westminster, Colo.; grandchildren, Michael John Bruno 2nd LT Marine Corps, Washington, D.C., John Rudolph Bruno, Laramie, Wyo., Dawn Margaret Fasig and Wayne Angelo Fasig, both of West Virginia; great-grandson, Layne Angelo Hamrich, West Virginia; Connie was especially close to beloved sisters, Betty (Bill) Kancilia, Dolly Welch, Berte Herrling, all of Trinidad, Colo.; brother- in-law, Tom Bruno, Spring Glen; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rudy Bruno who preceded her in death on June 22, 2000; sister, Marianne Hamman; brother-in-law, Tano Welch; and sister-in-law, Judie Bruno.
Funeral Mass, Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, 11 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 7-8 p.m. and Thursday morning from 10-10:40 a.m. Cremation will follow the Mass and interment will take place at a later date at Mt.
