After several tough losses, the Emery High Lady Spartan volleyball team returned to their winning ways with a sweep over the Gunnison High Lady Bulldogs.
Emery won 25-15, 25-17 and 25-21.
Playing for Emery were Brooke Jensen, Adri Huntington, Courtney Tuttle, Brittany Fauver, Blayr Jeffs, Shandee Jewkes and Hailee Rogers.
In the first game, Gunnison served but Emery scored the first point and then the second with Jensen serving.
Gunnison then scored and added three more points serving to lead 4-2. Emery broke service and then scored five straight points behind Huntington to lead 8-4 and Emery then maintained or expanded this margin throughout the game. The Bulldogs only scored six points in this game when serving.
The second game went back and forth until Fauver was serving. With the score 5-4 Emery, Emery scored and Fauver stepped up and served seven times and Emery now led 12-4. Gunnison never got any closer. In this game, no Bulldog ever served three straight times as Emery played well together.
In game three, Emery was down 4-1 when Emery broke service and Huntington stepped up to serve. Emery scored five straight points to take their first lead of the game.
Rogers then served three points and Emery led 11-5 and then held on for the win.
Emery plays at home on Tuesday with games at 4 p.m; 5:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. They play in Juab on Thursday.
