PRICE-On the sixth day of September 2010, Shanna Rae DeAngeles Mezek passed away from complications due to congestive heart failure.
She was born on Sept. 7, 1931 to Jay and Ada Watt DeAngeles in Sunnyside, Utah.
Shanna is survived by her loving husband, Rudy Mezek; daughters, Debra (Don) Borba, Evanston, Wyo., Beckie Sanchez, Price, son, Jay (Chris) Mezek, Covington, Wash.; grandchildren, Shawn Borba, Salt Lake City, Sonny (Bethany) Borba, Levelland, Texas, Melissa Due, Salt Lake City; great-grandchildren, Jayden Due, Salt Lake City, Dakota and Madison Borba, Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, LaVae Beausheur, Salt Lake City and her children Janae, Valerie, and Keb Beausheur, Salt Lake City. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Frances Mallard, Price and Mary Smith, Bountiful.
Preceded in death by her parents, and beloved step-father Henry Roberts. She married her long time beau, Sgt. Rudy Mezek on June 2, 1951 in East Carbon. With their three small children in tow, and leaving her husband working in Price, Shanna attended Utah State University where she achieved a Bachelor Degree and then graduated with a Master of Education. She devoted her entire career educating elementary school children in Price for 26 years. She started her career in the old Harding/Central Schools, and later worked at Creekview Elementary.
Shanna was a long time active member of SNPJ Lodge #113 of Price as recording secretary. After her retirement, Shanna was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer. After treatment for that illness (which she then became a 15 year survivor), Shanna and Rudy traveled the globe by cruise, tour bus, and other means to see the world. They loved each other’s company and adored each other as partners for many years celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in June of 2001. Shanna was the kindest, most loving person you were to come across. She will be terribly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral Mass, Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service, Thursday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are welcome daily. Family will be at Mitchell’s Thursday and Friday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
