Over the past three decades, the problem of domestic violence has left the private domain and become a matter of public debate. Domestic Violence cuts across all socioeconomic, ethnic, cultural, gender and racial boundaries. It has become an enormous social problem. For instance, a woman is battered every 15 seconds in the United States (Uniform Crime Reports 1994). The Center for Disease Control in 2003 reports nearly 2 million injuries and 1,300 deaths nationwide as a result of domestic violence. Fifty percent of violent juvenile offenders and adult prisoners came from homes where domestic violence occurred.
As Domestic Violence became recognized as an increasing problem that affects individuals, families, and communities, legislators joined with advocates and mental health professionals to enact laws and develop ways to treat victims and perpetrators. The Emery County Domestic Violence Coalition will explore the social, legal and treatment aspects of Domestic Violence at its annual community awareness/educational program on October 13, 2010 at noon in the old courthouse in Castle Dale. Lunch will be provided and the program is free of charge. Organizers said, “Come join us and our panel of experts. Kevin Webb is a LCSW who has piloted an unconventional treatment program for court ordered perpetrators. He will be joined by Intermountain Sex Abuse Treatment staff from Price who also treat perpetrators as well as victims. They offer a wealth of knowledge about causes of Domestic Violence and what works and doesn’t work in treating these populations. Judge Mary Manley, who helped establish the Emery Coalition, will answer legal questions and offer insights she learned after serving as a Prosecutor and Juvenile Court Judge for many years. Remember to mark your calendars for October 13 for the Emery County Domestic Violence Coalition’s annual program.”
Kevin Webb will take an hour and teach a class after the program in the same room. He will talk about how to achieve behavioral change. The public is invited to attend at no cost. Webb will explain how participants can change a behavior. He plans to share changes he has made using his modality of treatment. Webb has presented his material at national and international conferences. He has seen great success in his endeavors and is highly regarded in his field. Webb will offer a great opportunity for hands on learning that can change your life.
