Emery J. Durand passed away Oct. 2, 2010 with the same grace that he lived his life. He was born Nov. 22, 1922 in Huntington, Utah to Louis and Louise Durand.
He proudly served his country in the Navy during WW II in the South Pacific.
He married Dorothy Mathie in the 1940s, later divorced. He married Thelma Rhinehart in 1967, she passed away in 2005.
He had a very distinguished career with Boeing in Seattle, Wash; Wichita, Kansas and Huntsville, Ala. where he was instrumental in engineering Saturn V, the moon mission, at NASA.
It’s difficult to eulogize Emery, for the attributes are far too many to list for such a gifted and extraordinary man. He had an extremely large family and circle of friends. Through his integrity, intelligence, sense of fairness, sense of humor and undiminished capacity to love he was able to touch, change and give all of us lucky enough to have been a part of his life a great and lasting gift. He didn’t push from behind or race ahead. He walked next to you. He would listen and offer quiet, sound advice; letting you know that you had one who loved and supported you right by your side.
He was preceded in death his parents; his wife, Thelma; his brother, Fred; granddaughter, Lisa and son Robert Rhinehart. He is survived by his children: Jim (Barbara) Durand, Ferron, Utah; Diane (Dave) Smith, Ala; Dwight (Martina) Overstreet, Ala, June Little, Tenn; 13 grandchildren and many great and great, great grandchildren; sisters: Marie Lott, Price, Utah and Isabelle Oveson, Huntington, Utah.
We will use him as an example to help enrich our lives. We will keep him in our hearts.
