After having won their two previous region 12 games, the Emery High Lady Spartans went on the road last week and came home with two losses. They lost to Richfield 3-1 and then lost to North Sanpete 3-0.
At Richfield, Emery faced a team that was tied for the region lead with a 4-0 record. Richfield was also the team that finished third in last season’s state tournament. Richfield won the first game of the match at 25-12 with Emery taking the second game 25-18. Richfield then dominated the final two games of the match as they claimed 25-10 and 25-8 victories.
Emery then traveled to Mt Pleasant to face last season’s state champion. Although North Sanpete is only 3-2 in region action this season, the girls from North Sanpete take the game very seriously and play volleyball year round. The scores of this match were 25-18, 25-20 and 25-21. Although Emery never won a game against the Hawks, the Hawks faced tougher and tougher competition as the night rolled on.
This week, Emery will host Juab on Tuesday night and will travel to Delta on Thursday. Delta defeated Richfield last week after Emery had played the Wildcats. Delta won 3-0 and defeated Richfield 25-20, 25-19 and 25-12. Delta finished fourth last season in the state tournament and both the Rabbits and the Wildcats are ranked in the top five in 3-A volleyball this season.
