The Green River Medical Center recently celebrated its remodel and expansion on Sept, 23-27. There was an open house and a ribbon cutting with refreshments. Many local people came by to see the newly completed work.
At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Green River mayor Pat Brady and councilmembers joined with the medical center staff and board members to cut the ribbon and tell of the origin of the project. Brady said, “Thank you all for coming today. Green River City which owns this building and the Green River Medical Center are proud to showcase this much needed expansion. An improved facility allows us to improve services for our citizens as well as travelers in our area.
“Green River Medical Center is one of the smallest community health centers in our nation. It has been a federally qualified health clinic since 1985. The center was founded in 1959 and has been the sole provider of health care in this community for 51 years. Green River Medical Center was one of 11 health care centers in Utah selected to receive stimulus funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The medical center was awarded $303,445 to expand and remodel the current building.
“The project’s completion is the result of months of collaboration and coordination between the Health Resources and Service Administration, Green River City, the clinic, the designer and the builders. Special thanks to the HRSA for funding. Thank you to the Association for Utah Community Health and Health Choice Network of Utah for their assistance. Thank you to the members of the Green River City Council and members of the Emery County Commission for their continued support. The Rocky Mountain Power foundation supplied an additional grant which will be used for a new dental chair. Our dentists, Dr. G.O. Miller and Dr. Clyde Larsen are especially appreciative.
“Green River Medical Center board members and Medical Director Kim McFarlane were instrumental in this accomplishment. Dr. Glori Allen is our overseeing physician. The center contracts with Four Corners Behavioral Health for the services of Ron Day, Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Thanks to the Executive Director Mary Winters who acquired the grant and administered it. Thanks to Glenn Baxter for assisting with the task of overseeing design and construction. The project was completed on budget and on time.
“JT Dressler, architect did the design and Guy Johnston with Moab Construction was the general contractor. JT, Guy and all the subcontractors were very accommodating to our needs during the build.
“I want to praise the clinic’s staff for doing a super job of providing their usual exemplary care while working under less than ideal conditions.
“The most important thank you goes to the citizens of Green River who as the patrons put up with months of inconvenience due to the actual construction. You were real troopers and yes, you can once again use the front entrance,” said Brady.
Those attending the open house and ribbon cutting toured the building to see first hand the work completed in the remodel and expansion project.
