Lady Spartans volleyball

By GARY ARRINGTON Sports writer

The Emery High Lady Spartan volleyball team had just a single match last week due to UEA and the Emery team defeated Manti 3-1 to grab their fourth region win of the season versus five losses. The Spartans will conclude the season this week with a game against the Richfield Wildcats this Tuesday night.
Richfield, after being a top four team in 3-A volleyball last season, will finish the region season in second place having only lost twice to Delta. Delta will win the region title having gone undefeated so far in the season. Delta also was a top four finisher last year at state. North Sanpete will finish in the third place this season.
Emery will honor seniors Brooke Jensen, Courtney Tuttle and Adrie Huntington before the game as this trio will play their final game at home in a Spartan uniform. These three seniors have started all season for Emery and have been a vital part of the team. Their dedication and excellence will be missed.
Emery won the first game of the march against Manti 25-22. With Manti leading 20-19, Emery scored and Tuttle served five straight times and Spartans scored four times to lead 24-20. After Manti cut the lead to 24-22, Emery scored and won game one.
In game two, Emery and Manti were tied at 2-2 when the Templars scored seven straight points to break open the game and then cruised to an easy win at 25-11. Emery never made a serious run in this game but it appears that they got all the negative stuff out of their system in this game as they took the next two games.
Emery won game three 25-23 and then won game four and the match with a 25-22 win.
In game three, Emery led 23-16 when Manti scored seven of the next eight points to get close but Emery never quit and the Spartans got the win. In game four, Emery trailed at 12-10 and 14-11 before Emery tied up the game at 17-17. Brittany Fauver was serving when Emery got back into the game. Emery then led 19-18 when Emery broke service and scored four more points with Blayr Jeffs serving and Emery led 24-18.
