Julia Wilson, 89 passed away on Nov. 15, 2010 in Price, Utah.
She was born Jan. 27, 1921 to Silven and Mary Yordaney Cognien, in Price and was one of four girls.
Married Harold E. Wilson on March 4, 1944 in Price. They were married 50 years before Harold’s passing in 1995.
At the young age of 22 in 1943 she was the first woman auto mechanic to be signed to The Army Air Base in Kearns, Utah. She said pitching hay on the farm toughened her muscles for the work of an auto mechanic; she was looking forward to working on some Jeeps.
After marrying Harold they raised four sons and one daughter in the Miller Creek area. After her children were older the family moved to the Price area. At that time she went to school at The College of Eastern Utah and graduated from the LPN program. She was employed at Carbon Hospital then later at Castleview Hospital, she loved her work. She retired in 1986.
She was an avid gardener and loved flowers of all kinds. She had some of the prettiest roses around. She cherished her time in the garden and loved to have her family around her helping her spruce up her yard. Grandma always had great cooked meals ready for anyone willing to stay for dinner.
Julia is survived by her sons, Vernon (Sharon) Wilson, Carbonville, Utah; Jim (Maureen) Wilson, North Salt Lake City, Utah; Kenneth Wilson and Debbie Madrigal, Price, Utah; Deon (Darrel) Hailey, Fort Collins, Colo.; Gene (Stella) Wilson, Price, Utah; brother in law, Don Bennett, Murray Utah; nine grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and close friends.
She is preceded in death by husband Harold Wilson; sister Lena Bergera; sisters- in-law and brother-in-law, Juanita and Joe Pollock and Ilene Bennett.
Funeral service, Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, 11 a.m. Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-7 p.m. at Mitchell’s. Interment, Price City Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to share memories of Julia online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
