HELPER -Gaylen Phillip Barney, age 53, passed away Friday, Jan, 7, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was born to Gale and Kaleta Brady Barney in Price, Utah on Dec. 20, 1957. Gaylen graduated from Carbon High School in 1976 and spent his entire life in Carbon County. He is survived by his mother Kaleta Barney of Helper; his two children, Phillip Barney and Tina (Joe) Ballard all of Price; nine brothers and sisters, Clea Winder (Gary Curry) of Wellington, Nola (Donald) Melo of LaPoint, Neal Barney of Gillette, Wyo., Bert (Christy) Barney of Price, Karla (Dewey) Barney of Price, Orson (Amy) Barney of Neola, Sheldon (Windy) Barney of East Carbon, Marlaina (Richard) Bair of Manteca, Calif., Kirk (Cami) Barney of Altamont;. his four grandchildren Keely and Autumn Ballard and Antonio and Daniel Barney; former wives, Valerie and Tina. He had many nieces and nephews that he loved, especially Tiffany and Zachary.
Gaylen was a gentle hearted man that had an infectious smile. “G.B.” was a heavy equipment operator for 20 years at the Huntington and Hunter Power Plant before handling a long history of health problems. He took things day by day and loved the outdoors. Gaylen enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, and camping.
Anybody that knew Gaylen would know that he was Carbon Counties own personal “Yes Man.” He helped any one that asked and did it with his good humor all while never meeting a stranger.
He was preceded in death by father, Gale V. Barney; sister, Karen Barney; brother, Stanley Barney; and nephew, Dakota Lunsford.
Funeral service, Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. and will be Tuesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Wellington City Cemetery.
