Veteran Needs Help
Perk Allred is 76 years old and spent 20 years serving our country. He has lived most of his life in Emery County. Allred is now battling cancer. He recently discovered a leak in his home that has done considerable damage. He has to have extensive repairs to his home and needs help to accomplish this. Anyone that can contribute funds, materials, or manual labor to assist Perk in repairing and restoring his home will be greatly appreciated. BLM Plans Prescribed Fire for Autumn and Winter Months
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Price Field Office and the Canyon Country Fire Zone will be conducting prescribed fire activities this fall and winter on public lands in the vicinity of Price. Two areas targeted for burning as conditions allow include the Columbia project near East Carbon/Sunnyside, and the Price Canyon project on slopes west of Highway 6, north of Helper.

Daniels Fund Announces Grants for Utah Nonprofits
Organizations providing services to people in need are among the major recipients of $309,776 in grants for Utah nonprofits announced this week by the Daniels Fund.
Grant recipients include the Ability Foundation, Murray; Boys & Girls Clubs of Brigham City; House of Hope, Salt Lake City; Housing Opportunities, Salt Lake City; Transitions, Blanding; and Youth Impact, Ogden.
“Nonprofit organizations are stung twice by our unsettled economy-demand for their services surges at the same time resources and donations dry up,” explained Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund. “That awareness drives our continued support of the organizations that do so much for the most vulnerable in our communities.”
The program areas eligible for grants through the Daniels Fund include: Aging, Alcoholism & Substance Abuse, Amateur Sports, Disabilities, Education, Homeless & Disadvantaged, and Youth Development.
Bill Daniels, a pioneer in cable television who owned the ABA’s Utah Stars, established the Daniels Fund to operate the Daniels Fund Scholarship Program and the Daniels Fund Grants Program in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.

Self-guided presentation walks students through the sometimes-confusing financial aid application process. The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority is very pleased to announce “Navigating the FAFSA,” a much-needed new resource to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (commonly called the “FAFSA”). This tool is a self-directed presentation that guides students through topics explaining the purpose of the FAFSA, how to obtain a PIN to sign their FAFSA securely online, what information should be gathered, how to complete the FAFSA, and how to submit it. CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
