Ferron City installs cameras at fairgrounds

Ferron City Council felt the need to install cameras at the dumpster at the fairgrounds to try to curtail illegal dumping at the dumpster. People who dump non-permissible items in the dumpster could receive a ticket.
Councilman Ronny Bloomer informed the council of the camera at the fairgrounds dumpster area. They are installed and sending the video to the city office. Councilman Michael Behling expressed the need for signage at the dumpster site explaining permissible and nonpermissible items.
With the Millsite Golf Course nearing completion, most of the discussion at the recent council meeting was centered around that event. Mayor Joann Behling told the council the golf course improvement committee has been meeting regularly throughout the process. “We discussed a tentative date for the grand opening ceremony of the new nine holes. We are looking at a date in July. The committee would also like anyone who has additional ideas for the golf course to let them know. Signs are needed and ideas for the type of sign would be appreciated. We also need an encroachment permit from the county for golf carts to cross the county road to access the holes on the south side of Canyon Road,” said Mayor Behling.
Councilman Trent Jackson explained the video surveillance pictures that are coming. Once the program is in place it will not only broadcast the video, but record it also, the clarity of the video will improve. Jackson also expressed his request the city purchase a screen to show movies in the park during the summer months.
Councilman Garrett Hansen said he is looking at the youth city council budget to allow them to become more involved in the movies in the park during the summer. He also suggested some form of thank you be given to the members of the golf course committee who have served during the remodel.
The city council meeting was closed to open a public hearing concerning annexation of just more than two acres west of Bowden Lane. During the public hearing, no comments were presented. The public hearing was closed.
Back in the council meeting, the council approved the annexation of the property into the city.
Mayor Behling informed the council of the application of grant money from the Safe Sidewalks program. “We will need to relocate five power poles along 400 West near the junior high school,” she said. The council approved the request to ask Rocky Mountain Power to relocate the power poles.
Adele Justice told the council about the 2010 risk management action register. The city was reviewed previously and now has 45 days to complete the corrections and return the paperwork. “Many of the items on this list have already been taken care of,” Justice said. The council will review the list.
The budget for each department of the city was reviewed and some changes within each department were made to that budget. State law allows changes within a department, but not from department to department, without a public hearing.
Ferron City Council meets twice each month. The next meeting will be Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at the city hall.
Items considered non-permissible for the dumpster include: appliances, especially those that have freon such as air conditioner units, refrigerators and freezers, batteries, oil, paints, tires, metal and large tree stumps.
