CARBONVILLE-Americo “Rico” Catona Callor, age 88, passed away at his home with family lovingly surrounding him on Saturday, March 12, 2011. Rico and his wife Leola were never apart, and for the past year they were blessed to reside at the Beehive Home in Price.
He was born in Spring Glen, Utah on Feb. 23, 1923 to Antonio Giuseppe Catona Callor and Louise Marchese.
Americo (mostly known as Rico) was named after this great country of ours. He spent his childhood in Kenilworth as one of 12 children. On Sept. 5, 1946, he married Leola Mae Byrge in Helper, Utah.
“Rico” had a great talent for making friends and he really enjoyed talking with everyone he met. No person was a stranger to him and gardening was a joy in his life. He was a hard working man who simply loved farming and digging in the dirt. He was a generous man who shared his bounteous garden with his family and friends. Anyone who knew “Rico”, knew that he loved his Troy Built tillers.
Americo spent his entire life in Carbon County. He worked in the coal mines for 38 years and was so proud to belong to the United Mine Workers of America. He worked at Independent Coal and Coke for 14 years and was also employed by Kaiser Steel Company for 24 years.
“Rico” adored his grandkids and great-grandkids, and they adored him too….their “Papa.” He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Leola Mae Callor, Carbonville; son, Rick (Carol) Callor, Eagle, Idaho, three brothers, Chuck “Fiore” Callor, Helper, Joseph Callor, Denver, Colo., William “Bill” Callor, Helper; three grandchildren, Cally (Dean) Davis, Price, Carrie Callor, Salt Lake City, Doug (Misty) Callor, Lehi; six great-grandchildren, Kenny, KayLee, Andrew, Americo, Ayden and Andon; and many loving nieces and nephews..
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Doug Callor; five sisters, Angie Borrell, Vera Regis, Lena Tonel, Louise Kaywood, and Mary Parsons; three brothers, George, Tony and Jack Callor.
Funeral Mass, Wednesday, March 16, 2011, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Vigil service, Tuesday evening 7 p.m. Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
