PRICE, UTAH/ BEAVERTON, ORE.- John Mettome Baysinger, age 83, passed away peacefully at home in Beaverton, Ore. on March 7, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 27, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Curtis Monroe and Helva Johnson Baysinger. Prior to graduating from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served two terms as a Fireman First Class during WWII and the Korean War, receiving an honorable release.
In 1955 John moved to Carbon County where he was a member of the start-up crew for the Utah Power & Light Castle Gate plant. He later met and married Betty Mary Carr on Sept. 17, 1955. Betty passed away on Sept. 2, 1977. He later married Marbie Burnham in Aug. 1980 and divorced in July1986. On March 1, 1999 he married Shuxian (Grace) Cui.
During his younger more active years he spent many hours golfing, bowling, playing softball, and was an active member of the Moose Lodge. John transferred to the UP&L Huntington Power Plant where he was on one of the first crews to start up that plant. After taking an early retirement from UP&L in 1983, John enjoyed going to Jazz games and traveling. In 2005 he moved to Beaverton, Ore. to be with his wife Grace where they enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends during their last years together.
John is survived by his wife, Grace; children John “Jack” Baysinger; Mary Bell (Duff); step-son Jimmy Li (Connie); four grandchildren, Amanda True (Jared), Kimberly Shorts, Janelle Shorts and Stanley Li. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters June and Helen and three brothers, Paul, Craig and Charles.
Funeral service Saturday, March 12, 2011, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price. A viewing will be held from 10-11 a.m. prior to the services. Interment, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
