Sept. 27, 1937- March 9, 2011
PAHRUMP, NEV.-Joyce, wonderful wife and mother, 73, lost her valiant battle with cancer on March 9, 2011, Ash Wednesday, with her family at her side. She was born in Wyoming, to Stella and James Smith. She was raised in Carbon County by her mother and step-father, Ernest O’Green.
After graduation, Joyce moved to San Diego, Calif., for two years where she worked for Douglas Aircraft. She then returned to Carbon County, where she married John Georgedes and had two daughters, Kimberly and Stephne.
She was appointed District Court Clerk and held that position for a number of years. She later divorced. She moved to Provo, Utah, where she went to work for the Utah State Department of Rehabilitation and later for Adult Probation and Parole. She married Paul Webb and they had one daughter, Monica. While working two jobs, Joyce completed her BA degree and graduated from BYU in 1976. She later went to work for the Department of Social Services in Salt Lake City as a Quality Control Specialist.
At this time, she became very active in the Utah Public Employees Association, and ultimately served as President. She retired from the State after 30 years of service. While living in Salt Lake, she met and married Gordy Call. They have been together for 21 years. After retirement, they relocated to Pahrump, Nev.
Mom was an accomplished seamstress, passionate quilter and avid antique collector. She was also a first-rate golfer and could out-golf many men. She loved to dance, play Bingo, and going to yard sales. She always put others first. She was a fiercely loyal American who worked tirelessly for the Democratic Party, both locally and nationally. She was dearly loved and will be terribly missed.
Joyce is survived by her husband, her daughters, her grandchildren, Jennifer (husband Wes), Jacy and Truman, her great-grandchildren, Dahlen and Ryker, and her three sisters and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and three brothers.
