Letters to the Editor: Opposed to Immigration Bill

As I sit at my desk and write this letter to the editor a bill, H.B. 116 (The Guest Worker Program Act), sits on the Governor’s desk waiting either to be signed into law or rejected by him. Put as simply as I can, this bill is an amnesty bill for illegal aliens and, if it becomes law, would be a bad law.
Firstly let me say, I am Vice-chairman of the Emery County Republican party and have been a staunch supporter of Gov. Herbert but I can tell you that if he signs HB 116 into law I will work with every ounce of my energy against his re-election and, if he is selected as the party’s candidate for Governor, and I still hold this position, I will resign my position to work against him rather than be forced, by my party position, to support him; that is how important I think opposing this bill is and how important sending a clear message opposing any pro-illegal alien legislation to our legislators is.
I am tired of the left-wing, liberal myth that ‘… they do the work Americans don’t want to do.’ Until you have interviewed every American citizen and have had the jobs that would be done by these imported “guest workers” turned down by the interviewees you cannot support the statement that ‘… they do the work Americans don’t want to do.’ Having no empirical evidence to support that claim it is a myth.
Secondly, H.B. 116 violates Article 1 Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution “No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation;… ” and “No State shall, without Consent of Congress, … enter into Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power …” The Constitution clearly intended for immigration to be the purview of the Federal government. If we are to lay claim to being a nation of laws then we have to honor our foundational laws (the Constitution) not just the ones we like or that support the current “cause celeb” otherwise we are no better than the left-wing, liberal Anti-Americans and the current cynical regime occupying the White House whose positions are destroying our Republic, its economy, and increasingly making us energy dependent on people who seek our destruction.
Thirdly, this bill and those like it is a cynical attempt by (1) self-serving politicians seeking to pander to prospective (and hopefully grateful) future Hispanic voters to maintain or extend their grip on power and (2) greedy employers seeking cheap “economic slave” labor force to increase their profits; both are ingenuous in their claims to compassion and opposition to xenophobia and racism.
Fourthly, H.B. 116 and bills like it do nothing to respond to the real issues which are (1) the 12-20 million criminal aliens who have invaded the United States, undermine our sovereignty, and overtax our resources and (2) a regime eagerly embraces a “one world” philosophy and which refuses to honor its Constitutional responsibilities to defend the sovereignty and borders of the United States against the invasion of aliens from a nation whose President has declared “… Mexico is anywhere that Mexicans are …” Until these two issues have been fully responded to, we should not be discussing (at the local, state, nor national level) anything else where immigration is concerned.
Fifthly, while some states have “sanctuary cities”, H.B. 116 and bills like it make the state of Utah the nation’s first “sanctuary state”, a magnet to illegal aliens, and will displace legal Utah workers.
Lastly, H.B. 116 and bills like it make the state of Utah, its legislature, its people, and its Governor accomplices to, or at least aiders and abettors of, the commission of a crime against federal law.
I urge every citizen of Utah to contact Gov. Herbert at his official email (governor.utah.gov/goca/form_comment.html) or phone his office at 800-705-2464 and demand that he not sign this bad bill into bad law and make it clear to him in no uncertain terms that signing this bill, or any bill that grants amnesty to illegal aliens and threatens to displace legal Utah workers, will result in his not being reelected.
