PRICE-Alan LeRoy Thomas, age 70, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 at Beehive Home of Elmo after a valiant battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 24, 1940 in Price, Utah to Joe and Donna Kuretich Thomas.
Alan was a lifelong resident of Carbon County and graduate of Carbon High School. Shortly after gradaution he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Alan was a quiet man who enjoyed the labors of hard work. His working years began at Pioneer Welding and then he went to work for numerous U.M.W.A. mines in the area. Alan worked at Columbia, Horse Canyon, American Coal, Braztah, Valley Camp, and eventually retired from the U.S. Steel Coal Washer Plant. He was a proud and loyal retiree of the United Mine Workers of America Local # 6788.
Alan enjoyed the simplicity of the outdoors and the serenity of his ranches at Colton and Porphyry Bench. Although Alan may be gone, he leaves behind many landmarks that will be constant reminders of his work ethic and pride.
He is survived by his brother, Robert (Donna) Thomas, niece, Theresa Kinder, grand-nephew, Talon D. Kinder, and his nephew Jess all of Price; and many special cousins, Lafaye, Roger, Bart, Brian, Rodney, Brent, Tonya, Tammy, Toma, Matt, Melanie, Daryl and Kathy.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Joe Donald Thomas.
Graveside service, Thursday, March 24, 2011, 12 noon Price City Cemetery. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Thursday from 10:30-non11:30 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Alan at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
