Twelve Emery High seniors participated in the 31st annual Southeastern Utah Sterling Scholar Awards program on March 8 at USU-CEU in Price. These seniors prepared portfolios of their high school experience and outlined their expertise in the area of their category. Categories include: English, math, science, social science, foreign language, general scholarship, business and marketing, speech and drama, music, visual arts, family and consumer science and trade and technical education. The students arrived at CEU and participated in judges interviews. During the afternoon their porfolios were on display. The judges tallied scores and the winners were announced with two runners up in each category during the program. The master of ceremony for the program was Dennis Worwood. Chancellor Joe Peterson welcomed the sterling scholars and their parents to the campus. He congratulated them on their achievements in being named sterling scholars. Elise DeBry sang the National Anthem and Price troop no. 297 presented the flag.
Emery County school district superintendent, Kirk Sitterud told the students to always keep the vision of what they are doing and to become well rounded people in education and other areas of their lives.
Worwood presented the awards in each of the categories. There were performances by the music category winner, Bryson Weaver and the drama winner, Elise DeBry, both students of Emery High.
