HELPER-Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Rose Perrero, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2011, at the age of 93.
Rose was born on Feb. 19, 1918 in Helper to Francesco and Antonina Neroni Scavo.
She married her sweetheart, Tom Perrero, on Feb. 16, 1936. Together they shared 70 years of companionship until Tom’s passing in 2006.
Rose was a life-long resident of Helper who dedicated her life in service to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, and to her community. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Altar Society for more than 70 years, and held all offices more than once. She was chairman of the funeral dinner committee for numerous years until her retirement. Rose was hostess at Mama Mia spaghetti dinners and St. Anthony’s carnival dinners, operated the candy booth, was ticket chairman for St. Anthony’s card parties, and helped organize St. Anthony’s Sewing Circle. She was a former St. Anthony’s Woman of the Year, and was a long-standing member of the D.C.C.W. and on its state board of directors.
Rose was past president of Helper Women’s Club, volunteered at the Red Cross Blood Bank for 35 years, served as judge of election and voting registration agent. She helped with exhibits at the Carbon County Fair, and was former member of the Castle Country Quilting Guild.
Rose was an expert seamstress who liked to crochet and quilt. She cherished spending time with her family. She enjoyed being a homemaker and hostess, and everyone always received a warm welcome at her home. Rose will be remembered for making wonderful Italian specialties, loving the color pink, dancing with Tom (especially the polka), and reminding everyone to wash their hands. She will be dearly missed by her family.
She is survived by her son, Tom Jr.; daughter, Bernadette (Tom) Paluso; granddaughters, Monica Perrero, Tiffany (Lin) Hsu, Kim (Frank) Compagni, Nicole Paluso (Kyle) Keller; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Elsie Perrero and Mary Scavo; and her beloved cat, Pasquale.
